This complex practice of long, passively held floor poses is deeply nourishing and has a myriad of benefits for any yoga practitioner. People with tight hip flexors, hamstrings and who have lower back aches will benefit greatly from yin yoga because it will bring space and openness to these tight areas. NEW TIME ~ thursdays, september 23 – december 2 (no class november 11) 5:00 – 6:00 pm cost : $100.00 (10 classes) code: 11059 yoga for cancer survivors Research has shown that exercise is both safe and beneficial for all stages of the cancer experience (ie post-diagnosis, during treatment, post-treatment). This gentle, 7-week yoga program is based on hatha yoga, but has been modified for people who are particularly stiff, immobile, injured, ill, or under extreme stress. Previous cancer survivors who have completed this program have found significant benefits in physical strength and function, overall mood, stress levels and quality of life. This unique yoga program was developed by Susi Hately-Aldous of Functional Synergy, and is part of the yoga for cancer survivors research under the direction of Dr. Nicole Culos-Reed of the University of Calgary. No previous yoga experience is required. The instructor has received cancer-specific training, but please consult your doctor prior to the class starting to ensure there are no specific precautions or considerations based on your individual diagnosis and treatment.
